Q&A: Our First Date

How did you and Brett meet?

I love getting asked this question! Ironically enough, Brett and I went to the same high school. We grew up in the Poway which is a suburb of San Diego and we both went to school at Poway High. As cute as it would be to say that we are "high school sweethearts" we're not...haha, Brett was a senior when I was a freshman so we only went to high school together for one year. As a freshman, I definitely knew "who" Brett was, but me being a nobody freshman, he probably didn't even know I existed. Growing up in the same small city doesn't leave many degrees of separation. We both know most of the people each other dated in high school and college. As weird as that is, it's also a bit refreshing because we both really liked most of the people each other dated. Either way, it's a super small world.

So, how did we end up dating? I will never forget where I was when I received a Facebook "friend request" from Brett. I remember running into my best friends room (you all know Katy) and showing her his pictures. I was a little confused but also flattered at the same time. Remember, I didn't "know" Brett personally, I just knew who he was and back when social media was fresh and new (2009), I was only accepting "friend requests" from "friends". Call me a rebel but I "accepted" the request. A Facebook message from Brett shortly followed and we continued to message until we wen't on our first date together the next Thursday.

Where was your first date?

Turf Supper Club! If you know, you know. TSC was THE best first date spot (I'm so glad I picked it for us, hehe) It's one of San Diego's oldest cocktail lounges turned restaurant from the 1950's. The original model remains the same today which makes it feel so nostalgic. Carpet, red light ambiance, stiff cocktails, a piano, jukebox and grill in the middle of the dining room made for a very fun "first date" environment.

What did you eat on your first date?

The menu at Turf Supper Club is very straightforward. Meat, a side salad and a giant piece of garlic bread. Brett and I both chose the Filet Mignon and the poor guy had the job of grilling them to perfection (first date pressure).

Were you interested right away?

Oh ya! The timing couldn't have been more right too. I was single and had been for about a year at the time. I was coming out of a transitional period where I just wanted to focus on a new job, work was my focus and that's it. I had taken almost a year off from dating and was finally feeling ready to start again. Timing is everything!

Things with Brett felt very natural immediately on our date. He picked me up which I liked, he was a lot taller than I remembered (he's 6'5") and just as handsome as his social media pictures. Our conversation was easy and natural, he was super funny, he didn't burn my steak and he didn't try to make out at the end of the night. The best first date ever!

Love at first sight?ο»Ώ

I definitely think so. From the minute I received his FB friend request, things with Brett felt right. Our first date couldn't have gone any better, it was the best one I had ever been on. I think he felt the same way too.

The next day Brett invited me to a wine tasting day in Temecula that had been planned with some of his friends from college that Saturday. We had SO much fun that day and I got to meet some of his best friends. We even shared our first kiss holding onto the limo bus stripper pole during the wine tasting dance party... real classy ;) Haha, either way, things obviously continued to progress and we fell in love very quickly.
